Gender Selection in Abortion Debate

Listen to Dr Seng Chua, obstetrician and ACMA president, contribute to this controversial aspect of an already controversial issue on ABC Radio National's Saturday AM.

Analysing statistics on birth trends in Chinese Australian families over the last decade, A/Professor Chua found that there was no increase in the number of male children born in this demographic, indicating abortion has not been utilised as a tool for gender selection. A law banning gender selection would likely have no effect in this subpopulation.
